Girl Power Giving Tuesday Spotlight:
Kimberly Milfort
Kimberly Milfort is a Haitian American Hoosier. She spends her days helping Salesforce customers become marketing heroes, and her evenings/weekends supporting arts and STEM education programs in her community through Indy Convergence and the TechPoint Foundation for Youth.
What career path led you to become a STEM professional?
As a Purdue grad in Creative Writing and Linguistics, I ended up in the tech industry through writing business proposals, after spending two years as CFO of a telecom firm early on in my career. My background also includes audio engineering and cake decorating, so my professional path has been anything but linear.
Why did you choose to become involved with TechPoint Foundation for Youth?
I am passionate about equal access to experiences in tech (not just "exposure") for kids from all walks of life, especially young Black women and girls.
What advice do you have for female students who are just learning about STEM careers? How would you encourage them to dream big about their futures?
Try everything! Don't be afraid to jump in and just try it out. If it's not for you, at least you've learned something about yourself and know you've given it your best shot. Also, try to make a wide range of friends with different interests - even adults in STEM. It's a great way to learn, and it's really never too early to start finding those mentors and connections that can shape your life and career.
